I Want Your Holiday Doors! (And Porches & Windows)

The Christmas holiday season is quickly approaching (according to some radio stations and big box stores, the season began well before Halloween), and I love to feature historic buildings decked for the season. When it’s cold and gray, my spirits are lifted to see a gracious fanlight strewn with lights, or greenery festooning a porch or hung over door frames. Due to family obligations, I don’t think I will be traveling much in the remaining weeks before Christmas, so if you spy a holiday door or lovely historic facade swathed in wreaths and lights near you – please send it to me!

I love Williamsburg-themed decorations, though I’ve not yet tried them at our house. I am too afraid I would have opossums scaling the door to eat the fruit…

You can email me at gardens2gables@gmail.com, and include as much information – or as little – about the photograph as you wish. I would like location (city or county only) and whether or not you would like to be credited as the photographer.

If you follow this blog’s Facebook page, you can message the page with a photograph. I’d love to hear from you all!

Back when we lived “in town” one of the perks of winter walks was seeing decorations!

This morning I had the brilliant idea to spray paint some galvanized feed buckets red, and place them on our front porch steps filled with greenery. I dutifully added “Tractor Supply” to my list, though I don’t know if I will actually get there or not. But I do enjoy the planning.

Frankfort has some lovely historic doorways decked for Christmas.

I will share any photos you send on this blog’s Facebook page, and if I receive enough, I’ll do a post featuring them all!

The trees might scream “autumn!” but the bungalow is ready for the holidays.

My blog posts have been few and far between lately as I have struggled with family health crises. I  have a feeling I will need the soul-warming glow of Christmas lights even more this year, for the hope they can inspire in what seems to be a very dark time.

Back when my first baby was still a baby…

Let’s share a little cheer as winter beckons (it’s snowing in my neck of the woods this morning) and enjoy some historic architecture gussied up for the season.
